A Little About Us...
Rooted in Family, Growing for Generations
Laxague’s & Family Feed & More is a family-owned and operated business rooted in the values established by our founding owner, whose hard work, vision, and commitment to doing right by people built a company our community has trusted for years. That foundation continues to guide us, shaping not only how we do business, but how we show up for our neighbors every day.
As a local family, we take pride in serving the agricultural and rural community with dependable livestock feed, household pet supplies, and essential farm products. More than that, we believe in taking the time to listen, offer honest advice, and build lasting relationships. Whether you’re raising animals, caring for pets, or simply stopping by for supplies, you’ll find a welcoming environment and people who genuinely care.
Looking to the future, our goal is to keep Laxague’s & Family Feed & More family-owned and family-operated for generations to come. We hope to one day pass this business down to our children, teaching them the same values of hard work, responsibility, and community involvement that were passed down to us. By investing in the next generation, we’re committed to preserving the small-town service and personal connections that make our store more than just a place to shop.
At Laxague’s & Family Feed & More, this business is our legacy — built on family, strengthened by community, and carried forward with care for the future.
Our Story
Laxague’s & Family Feed & More began with a simple idea: to serve the community with quality products, honest work, and genuine care. Founded by a hardworking local whose dedication and vision built the foundation of the business, the store quickly became a trusted place for neighbors to find what they needed and the help they could rely on. As the business grew, it remained rooted in family values.
Today, Laxague’s & Family Feed & More is proudly family-owned and operated, with those original principles still at the center of everything we do. From livestock feed to household pet supplies, we’ve always believed that good service starts with taking the time to know our customers and understand their needs.
Looking ahead, our story is still being written. We are committed to keeping this business in the family, with hopes of passing it down to our children and teaching them the importance of hard work, responsibility, and community involvement. By honoring where we started and investing in the future, we aim to preserve the small-town spirit and personal connections that have defined Laxague’s & Family Feed & More from the beginning.
Our story is one of family, community, and a shared commitment to supporting the people who support us — today and for generations to come.
Meet the Family

Apalo Insell
Owner / Partner
Born in Modesto, CA, Apalo moved to the Carson Valley at just 13 years old. He spent his teenage and adult years growing up in the valley, learning the values of hard work, perseverance, and community. From helping neighbors with chores to exploring the valley’s wide-open spaces, he developed a deep appreciation for small-town life and the importance of strong, lasting relationships. At 18, he met his wife, Kaitlyn, and together they began building a life centered around family, community, and a shared love for the valley they call home. Apalo’s greatest passion is his family — he cherishes every moment spent with his wife and their six children, and he takes pride in instilling in them the same values that shaped his own life: honesty, hard work, and care for others. Equally important to him is his community; he believes in giving back, supporting local families and neighbors, and fostering connections that make Carson Valley a stronger, closer-knit place to live. Whether it’s lending advice to a farmer, helping a neighbor with livestock care, or simply sharing a friendly conversation in the store, Apalo brings his dedication and heart into every interaction. Today, he carries this love for family and commitment to the community into everything he does at Laxague’s & Family Feed & More, ensuring the store is more than a business — it’s a cornerstone of the Carson Valley, built on trust, relationships, and generations of care.

Kaitlyn Insell
Owner / Partner
Born in Sacramento, CA, Kaitlyn moved back to Nevada with her mom, Sharon, when she was just 1 year old. They settled in Carson City, surrounded by friends and family who welcomed them with open arms. Growing up, Kaitlyn was shaped by a tight-knit community and the support of those around her. When she was 7, her mom met George, who quickly became a father figure in her life. Shortly after George and Sharon married, the family moved to the Carson Valley, just a bike ride from George’s mom, Mary Micheo-Abbott, whose roots run deep in the community. George later adopted Kaitlyn under his last name when she was in 5th grade, and the family continued to grow, creating a household filled with love, laughter, and shared values. Kaitlyn met Apalo in 2008, and they married in 2009, beginning a life centered on family, love, and community. Together, they have six wonderful children, and their home is a lively, caring hub of family and tradition. Kaitlyn’s dedication to her family, love for the Carson Valley, and commitment to her neighbors guide everything she does at Laxague’s & Family Feed & More. She takes pride in helping local families care for their livestock and pets, teaching the next generation about responsibility and care, and making the store a welcoming place where everyone feels like part of the family.

George Abbott
Owner / Partner
Born in Reno, NV, George was raised in the Carson Valley from just three days old. Adopted into a local Basque family, he grew up with horses, sheep, and pigs, and spent his youth working on ranches, riding bulls, and participating in FFA — experiences that instilled a lifelong respect for hard work, responsibility, and community. As an adult, George built a life centered on family and service. He married and had two daughters, Jordan and Hayley, and served as a volunteer firefighter for over a decade before joining the United States Forest Service in 1997. He later served at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center and returned to the Forest Service until his retirement in 2021. Today, he continues serving the community as Fire Chief for the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California. George remarried in 1997 to Sharon, and together they added two more children, Braydon and Taryn, creating a family of seven. In 2009, they moved into George’s mother Mary Micheo-Abbott’s home to care for her in her final years, allowing her to pass peacefully surrounded by family. George’s life is defined by family, community, and service — values he brings to every part of Laxague’s & Family Feed & More, continuing the family legacy and supporting neighbors with care and dedication.

Sharon Abbott
Owner / Partner
Born in San Jose, CA, Sharon moved to South Lake Tahoe when she was just 2 years old. She grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of the area, spending winters playing in the snow and summers at the lake — a childhood filled with adventure, family, and a strong sense of community. These early experiences instilled in her a lifelong love for animals, the outdoors, and small-town values. Later, Sharon moved to Sacramento, CA, where she had her daughter, pursued her career, and graduated as a veterinary technician. Her passion for animal care and dedication to her work became a central part of her life, shaping her values and her approach to helping others. In 1989, Sharon returned to Nevada and settled in Carson City, joining the Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital, where she has proudly served the community since 1993. In 1996, she met George — though she admits she first “scoped him out” at Laxague’s, where he was working! They married in 1997 and began building a family together, welcoming two more children along the way. Today, Sharon brings her expertise, compassion, and love for animals to every part of Laxague’s & Family Feed & More. Her dedication to her family and her community guides everything she does, ensuring the store remains a trusted, welcoming place for neighbors and friends alike.
